In our lives, there are times when things seem messy or overwhelming. This may mean you are noticing relationship problems such as codependency or people-pleasing behaviour; it could mean increased anxiety, sadness, anger or other big emotions; or it could mean that you're using unhealthy behaviours and substances that you can't seem to quit (shopping, gambling, eating, sugar, smoking, social media).
I offer secure virtual/online therapy and coaching sessions. You are in charge of how often we meet, and it's your choice of 30, 45, 60, or 90 minute sessions, and you can book online at a time that suits you best.
We start with a free video call to see if we're a good fit for each other. From there, we talk about what's important to you, and the goals you want to achieve. Then we look at what's getting in your way and I teach you tools to support you as you try things differently. I offer grace and compassion along with accountability to help you get where you want to go.
I know that reaching out for help can take courage and a leap of faith. That's why I offer a no-obligation free discovery video call. We can meet each other, and ask questions, and then you can take some time to decide whether you want to work with me.
"Bethany is warm-hearted, empathetic and yet so structured that she never loses the thread in a session. She always asked the right questions and knew exactly when I needed more empathy and understanding for myself."
"Her personality is both warm and non-judgmental, allowing for full transparency and honesty to fully engage in discussions. I encourage you to jump in with Bethany; you will not regret having her stand beside you to teach you and encourage you on your journey."
"I feel grateful, honored and so happy I found Bethany to help me through this challenging stage in my life. She listened, validated and empowered me. I have a big mountain to climb and ...the base of my mountain is more solid and secure from my work with Bethany."
Please reach out at bethany@symplicated.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
I work with all adults, but my greatest experience and my happiest clients tend to be middle-aged women who struggle with food, eating, and weight and want to make some changes. Or they are tired and exhausted from putting themselves last and need some help to find a better way forward. Together, we uncover patterns and behaviours that keep us stuck and I use gentle accountability and teach self-compassion to move clients into lasting changes.
I have a Masters of Social Work from Wilfrid Laurier University, and an Honours Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) from University of Waterloo.
I am registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. I am also a member of the Ontario Social Work Association, and have extra training in using the Enneagram in sessions. I regularly engage in continuing education to keep my skills current and fresh.
I start each session by asking what you would like to talk about, and we go from there. We can talk about emotions, boundaries, connection, schedules, eating, body image, relationships, and anything you think is showing up in your life that you'd like to better understand.
Yes! Much of my experience has been focused on helping those with addiction to sugar, food or ultraprocessed food, as well as those with a history of dieting, emotional eating, bingeing, restricting, and body issues. You can find out more here.
Yes! Workplace issues and stress have a way of creeping into our non-work hours. My 25+ years in the public and not-for-profit sectors (13 of those as a manager) has given me an understanding of workplace dynamics. Further training (e.g., Management and Leadership Certificate from WLU) has given me insight into common management and leadership issues and how to effectively deal with them.
This is completely up to you! Some clients want a period of time where they can count on sessions every week or every two weeks; other clients want to book the next session as we go. There is no right or wrong frequency for sessions, and there is no right or wrong number of sessions. You are in the driver's seat and you can use my Calendly link to book your own sessions and choosing the session length that suits you best.
It is the Client’s responsibility to notify Symplicated at least 24 hours in advance of a scheduled 1:1 session to cancel. Symplicated will attempt in good faith to reschedule the missed session without penalty. Symplicated reserves the right to invoice the Client for a missed session.
Invoices are sent out after each session. Payment is accepted via E-transfer and Stripe. Payment is due upon receipt, and expected within one week of session.
I bill you directly, and you can seek reimbursement from your benefits provider. I am registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and I hold a Masters of Social Work, so please check with your provider to see if those are covered. I am also registered with Medavie Blue Cross.
In short: no. I will offer therapy and coaching using the skills and tools that I have, and I will ask you questions and offer observations, coaching, and potential solutions throughout the process. You are responsible for implementing any plans or suggestions, and any progress toward your goals.
There are no obligations to continue to work with me. If at any time, you find that what I'm offering is not working or no longer working for you, we can stop. And you can restart, too. It's up to you. I want what's best for you to grow and achieve your goals, and if I completely understand if that's not me. Here's a podcast where I join with 2 colleagues to provide you with considerations that can help you find your best fit with a potential counselor or coach.
Many times. I started my journey as a counseling client during my undergraduate studies. It got me back on my feet after a devastating relationship break left me unable to function. Since then, I have had counseling/therapy/coaching for emotional eating, childhood wounds, sugar and addiction. I believe in having therapy myself so that I can not only improve in my personal life, but to grow in my professional life as well. I am currently talking to someone regularly to keep me growing, especially spiritually.
